HVAC Service Technician

Position title:  Service Technician – HVAC  (3 needed)
Location: Atlanta, GA (Northern Suburbs)

Potential exists for possible Service Leadership or Management position

What salary range are you willing to pay?  $25-$35 per hour based on experience.

Does this person get involved with any sales activities, if yes please elaborate on their involvement?  Not on a routine basis.  Occasionally, technicians are asked to perform surveys for estimating.

How would you describe the types of customers you tend to serve?  Most of our Customers are hotels, private schools, and light industrial.  I would say they are demanding and expect us to be flexible with scheduling.
What are the most important skills, the ones you absolutely must have in the person who fills this job? 
  • Substantial knowledge of HVAC systems including split systems, packaged systems, air and water-cooled chillers, and associated building control systems. 
  • This would include the ability to perform preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and installation of such equipment.
What skills or talents would you like to have that perhaps you could live without, but prefer to have if you could get them?  Pool dehumidification systems. 
What are the traits you absolutely do not want in the person who fills this job?   Rude, lazy, won’t follow directions, uncooperative, entitled, defensive, disorganized

Preventive Maintenance Related to HVAC Systems –  25%
  • Change air filters
  • Grease motors
  • Check motors for proper current draw and voltage
  • Evaluate refrigeration systems for proper operation including verifying proper superheat, subcooling, operating pressures, current draw, voltage, air flows, and proper operation of safeties, dampers, smoke detectors, variable speed drives, motors
  • Evaluate central plant systems (chillers, boilers, and cooling towers) for proper operation including verifying proper air and water flows as well as proper operation of motors, fans, dampers, valves, and control systems
  • Preventive maintenance documentation
Troubleshooting and Repair/Replacement Related to HVAC System Components – 50%
  • Motors
  • Compressors
  • Control Systems (electrical and some digital), including relays, contactors, and circuit boards
  • Valves, dampers, and actuators
  • Variable speed drives
  • Pumps
  • Repair documentation
Installation of HVAC Systems – 25%
  • Air handlers
  • Fans & blowers
  • Air rotation systems
  • Pool dehumidification systems
  • Air distribution systems (Metal, Fabric)
  • Split systems
  • Variable refrigerant systems
  • Packaged units
  • Chillers
  • Pumps
  • Valves and actuators
Must be available for on-call rotations for after-hours service calls.
